Dr. Richard D. Seymour
Associate Professor
Department of Technology
Ball State University

Coordinator, Major In Technology Teacher Education

Background:
I'm a member of the faculty in the Dept. of Technology at Ball State University (and have been since 1981).  I served as a Graduate Assistant in the manufacturing lab during the 1981-1982 school year, then joined the staff as a slot opened in the manufacturing enterprise program the next year.  To date, I still cover both the ITMFG 161 / Introduction to Manufacturing and ITEDU 403 / Technological Enterprise courses in the department.  Over the years I've also taught classes such as Design Techniques, Designing Technology Systems, Exploring Technology Education, History & Philosophy of Technology Education, T.E for Diverse Populations, Transportation Technology, and graduation courses in communication and transportation.

My teaching career started at Crestview Senior High School in Ohio.  The high school experience also included coaching basketball, track and field, and volleyball.

Professionally, I've run Technology Education-related workshops across the United States and around the globe, so enjoy working with fellow educators.

The position at Ball State has helped open many opportunities . . . . especially professional linkages.  I've been president of the state association in Indiana (i.e., the Engineering / Technology Educators of Indiana ) and served a term on the Board of Directors of the International Technology Education Association.  As head of the Indiana curriculum committee for Technology Education, I work with many educators around the state and nation.  One of my current responsibilities includes serving as the national contest coordinator for the Technology Education Collegiate Association ( TECA ).  That means I help develop and implement the competitive events program at TECA regional conferences and the at the annual ITEA convention.  I was elected President of the Council of Technology Teacher Education ( CTTE ) in 2007 and am serving a 3-year term.

In regards to a home life, I'm married and we have one son (with all of us shown here at a concert during Summer 2008).  My wife volunteers around the community and my son attends Yorktown Middle School.  We travel a great deal, as I've been in 48 states (I have yet to get to Alaska and North Dakota) while my son hit his 25th state before he was 10 years old.
