2006
TECA-affiliated chapters throughout the midwest section of the United States are invited to participate in the 2006 TECA Regional Conference @ Peoria, IL. As in past years the conference will be held in conjunction with the Illinois association's annual convention. Note: We again appreciate the support of the Illinois Technology Education Association! This fall, we hope to have schools from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky at the regional. The '06 Illinois conference will feature outstanding sessions, vendors, contests, prizes, and lots of fun.

Education
Conference site can be found at this link: Click
Here NOTE: From the Illinois association page, click on ITEC
on the menu at the left.
Note: Pleased return this form as soon as possible to the Illinois association!
All students and advisors must sign-up for the Illinois conference. TECA participants sign-up at the $35.00 student rate (and non-Illinois residents do not have to join the Illinois association). The registration accomplishes several items . . . . you support the state organization that supports the TECA Midwest Conference, you get on-site meals, and the Illinois association always has a neat gift for all registrants. The food alone is worth more the registration fee (and you don't have to to leave the conference site to find a meal).
NOTE: Following
2006 / 2007 ITEA and TECA guidelines, all TECA participants are required
to
register for the
professional
meeting(s) they are attending. Name badges will be checked
during
contests.
That guideline will
include the
ITEA conference @ San Antonio.
Six schools attended last year's TECA Midwest Regional. The all time record is 7 schools . . . . . we can easily break that number of entries in 2006! So plan to participate in the Illinois conference and TECA Midwest Regional.

For additional information . . . . . here is the challenge for the DEPCO Teaching Lesson Contest for Peoria:
ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGICAL DEVICES & SYSTEMS / ENERGY & POWER TECHNOLOGY
The thirteenth Standard for Technological Literacy addresses the impacts of technology, and how to assess the influence of various products and services. The sixteenth STL (national content standard) relates to energy and power technologies. Obviously, new sources of energy and better power generation techniques have changed throughout history, and a new generation of bio-fuels is currently “hitting the market”.
Yet the nature of these bio-fuels (such as E-85) and their impact on the global energy scene is still unclear for many in society.
For the Teaching Lesson event at the TECA regional conference this year, the challenge relates to both STL 13 and STL 16, as you are to assess the emerging impacts associated with bio-related fuels. Specifically, what are these new energy sources? How are they different from conventional sources of energy? What might be their impact on our daily lives?
During the regional conference you are to “teach” a lesson about the impacts of our emerging bio-related energies. The judges in the audience will be your class of students, so develop a lesson that shows them how to collect research data and interpret news headlines, and ultimately become more informed citizens in a confusing world of choices. Note: Your lesson should be developed for learners at the secondary level.
Prepare your lesson and media following the contest guidelines outlined in the DEPCO Teaching Lesson packet.
