LOOKING BACK ONE YEAR
Congratulations to the championship teams for Fall 2010 . . . . .
TECA Problem Solving Contest: Ball State University
TECA Technology Challenge: Illinois State University
TECA Transportation Contest: Ball State University

TECA-affiliated chapters throughout the midwest section of the United States are invited to participate in the 2011 TECA Regional Conference @ Bloomington, IL.  As in past years the conference will be held in conjunction with the Illinois association's annual convention.   Note: We again appreciate the support of the Illinois Technology Education Association!  This fall, we hope to have schools from Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan at the regional.  The 2011 Illinois conference will feature outstanding sessions, vendors, contests, prizes, and lots of fun.

The Illinois Technology Education Conference site can be found at this link:  Click Here  NOTE: From the Illinois association page, click on "ITEC Home" on the menu at the left.

All students and advisors must sign-up for the Illinois conference.  TECA participants sign-up at the $20.00 student rate (and non-Illinois residents do not have to join the Illinois association).  The registration accomplishes several items . . . . you support the state organization that supports the TECA Midwest Conference, you get on-site meals, and the Illinois association always has a neat gift for all registrants.  The food alone is worth more the registration fee.

NOTE: Following ITEEA and TECA guidelines, all TECA participants are required
to
register for the professional meeting(s) they are attending.  Name badges will be checked
during contests.

Note: The all-time record is 7 schools in 2004!  Please plan to participate in the Illinois conference and 2011 TECA Midwest Regional.

GENERAL TECA COMPETITIVE EVENT REGISTRATION

Contest booklets were electronically mailed to all schools (nationwide) the earlier this fall.  For the '11 TECA Midwest Regional, we are running the Communication, Problem Solving, Transportation, and TECA Technology Challenge.  Rules / guidelines:  LINK

Teams need to register their teams for the competitive events (so that sufficient materials will be available on-site for everyone).  Please e-mail the conference director (Dr. Richard Seymour @ Ball State University) with your school name and which events your school will be entering.

One additional piece of information . . . here is the challenge for the TECA Teaching Lesson Contest for Bloomington:

STL #8 -  The Attributes Of Design

The eighth standard in the Technology For All Americans listing is related to students being able to apply the design process.  It's more than knowing the steps in solving problems, and goes beyond documentation and the use of software.  Standard #8 implies that student can design a new product, device, structure, or system.

Using the guidelines in the TECA contest manual, participants at the midwest Regional Conference should prepare a lesson where the "sample students" would be involved in successfully designing an appropriate solution to an technology-based challenge.  Note: It's assumed that time constraints mean the students could not complete the entire lesson within the event time-frame, so judges will review how well the lesson is organized, to continue the design work over subsequent class periods.

Good luck developing your teaching materials!
